CONNECT WITH VERA: A Cultural Destination
Culturally.
The traces of our spirit.
Vera is the result of a mixture of cultures with more than two millennia of history. This Mediterranean municipality conceals beneath it a plural memory, an example of the richness of all the peoples that have visited it. Comparable to the rest of the Levantine cities, it has been a common place for different peoples and languages, which have given it an important cultural legacy full of traditions, customs and heritage.
Monuments
Vera Town Hall
Our Town Hall is the most notable civil building in the city and is located in the Plaza Mayor. In addition to the premises of the consistory, there is also the Municipal Historical Museum and the Historical Archive.
The bullring
Our 19th century bullring is the oldest in the province and, due to its neo-Arab style, it is one of the most remarkable monuments of the entire municipal heritage.
Our Lady of the Incarnation Fortress Church
This church, which is from the 16th century, has a Mudejar-Andalusian fortress-type structure, which defended the area from possible attacks by the Moors or the Berbers . Within the church there are two objects that particularly stand out: the main altarpiece and the Virgin de La Victoria.
La Fuente de los Cuatro Caños
‘The fountain of Four Spouts’, which is also known as Fuente Chica, is of Arab origin as Moors inhabited the Cerro del Espíritu Santo until 1518. The most important restorations were carried out at the beginning of the 20th century, when the laundry room was added. Recently, it has been restored even further, turning it into what is now known as ‘The Centre for the Interpretation of the Culture of Water’ (CICA).

Celebrations
Easter
You have to be here to understand it. Our Week of Passion is the most important social and religious festival in the town. Such moments are lived with intensity through the brotherhoods that run through our streets. It is a time when encounters of tradition, customs and emotions are awaited with anticipation.
Fair and festivals of San Cleofás
The festivities of our patron, San Cleofás, are celebrated in the last week of September. Here you can find everything: the ‘Chupinazo’ (the firework display) that inaugurates the festivities at the City Hall, the Proclamation of the Festivities, theatre and popular open-air dances. These are a few days when we can welcome everyone who wants to join in with open arms.
The Patron Saint’s day of the festival of Virgin Angustias
Every 10th June, Vera commemorates the patron saint of the town, the Virgen de las Angustias. As part of the celebrations there is the Moors and Christians parade, as well as the Giants and Bigheads, the floral offering and the open-air dance in the Plaza Mayor.
Moors and Christians
This popular festival commemorates the Surrender of Vera that took place some 531 years ago. Each year, a large parade of about a thousand people, including Moors, Christians and municipal marching bands, walk through the streets of Vera inviting its neighbours to get more involved.
Carnival
Vera is filled with masks, troupes, costumes and, above all, joy. These are moments to enjoy in which tradition is mixed with humour and in which the people are the protagonists of the festivities.
